He was born Nov. 24, 1951 in Rock Springs, WY to Kenneth George and Afton Nyman Bateman. His family moved to the Sugarhouse area in Salt Lake City when he was 10. He attended schools in SLC graduating from Highland High School in 1970. He later attended the University of Utah majoring in business.

Evan worked five summers in Zion's National Park starting when he was 15. He made many friends and his passion for nature and the beauty of this earth was cultivated during those carefree years. Evan served a LDS Mission to the Australian Sydney and Brisbane Mission 1972-1974.

In June of 1975 he married his wife Kristine Allan in the Salt Lake Temple. They are the parents of eight children, six living. Evan was a wonderful husband and father and really enjoyed playing with his children. He was Bishop of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Rigby 9th Ward at the time of his death. He especially loved his Ward members. Evan has a strong testimony of Jesus Christ and wanted to serve him.
