David L Clarke

David LaVere Clarke died of a lingering illness during the early morning hours of April 3, 2011 at the IHC Hospital in Murray, Utah.He was born August 11, 1952 in Salt Lake City, the son of David H. and Dorothy Anderson Clarke. David graduated from Highland High School in Salt Lake and attended the University of Utah. He joined the Navy in 1978 and received training as an electrician. He placed second in his class of 125 and received the rank of Electrician's Mate First Class while serving on the USS Montecello in the South Pacific. Upon his discharge from the Navy, he returned to Salt Lake City and worked in the elevator industry for 30 years, until his retirement in 2008. He worked as both a construction foreman and adjuster. He was a skilled technician and an excellent teacher of those who worked with him. He married Marsha Gonzales. They had a son, David D., who lives in Salt Lake City. David and Marsha subsequently divorced. David was a loyal son and support to his parents. When his father, David H., had a serious accident, David was a great help in visiting his father, supporting his mother, helping to sell their home, and moving them to Orem. David enjoyed working on his computer and the company of his dog, Wilson. As David's health declined, Marsha and David's stepdaughter, Thunder, helped to care for him in his home. When he was hospitalized, both Marsha and Thunder provided loving support for him. David is survived by his parents, David H. and Dorothy Clarke, long time residents of the Sugar House neighborhood of SLC, now living in Orem, Utah; his son David D. (SLC); his daughter, Thunder Buist (SLC); his brother Darral G. Clarke and his wife, Vicki (Provo); and sister Donna Sue and her husband Quinn Parker (Sandy); and his former wife and friend, Marsha Gonzales and loving cousins, nieces and nephews.
