Marilyn McQuarrie Barton died at age 57, September 1, 2009, after a valiant fight with cancer.  Marilyn and I became good friends in 1961 when the Ogilvie Family moved just a few houses down the street from the McQuarrie Family.  She had six siblings and all their names started with "M".  Both our fathers were doctors.  Marilyn was intelligent, athletic and a super fun friend.

I remember the sad day, 19 Sept. 1965, when Marilyn's older brother, Mark fell to his death in a mountain climbing accident in Little Cottonwood Canyon.  He was climbing with George Lowe when his rope broke.  Mark and George were members of the Alpenbock Climbing Club.

Marilyn and I played soccer together, hiked together, went downtown together, made up plays and sold tickets to our neighbors to earn money.  I remember tripping over a sprinkler and breaking my leg while playing kick the can on the McQuarrie's front lawn.  Her mother came to visit me when I was hospitalized in September 1962 after being bitten by a baby rattlesnake.

I love Marilyn and I'm grateful for all the fond memories I have of her.
