John Darrel Spendlove (Teacher)

John Darrel Spendlove, 93, passed away on Friday, May 17, 2013, at his home in Salt Lake City. He was born on February 20, 1920, in Hoytsville, Utah to Janus and Hazel Spendlove.
John graduated from Park City High where he participated in football, basketball, ski jumping, student government and opera. After high school he attended Utah State University where he continued with football and skiing. He served in the US Army during World War II in the South Pacific. John married Arlene Johnson on June 9, 1949 in the Cardston Temple.
John was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He taught architectural drawing at Highland High for 28 years. His hobbies included skiing, camping and spending time outdoors. He enjoyed art and he spent many hours painting and sculpting. His greatest joy was his family.
John is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Arlene; sons, Darrell (Ruth) Spendlove of Smithfield, Mark Spendlove of Logan; daughters, Leslie (Dave) Lee of Amalga, Terry Spendlove of Salt Lake City; 19 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; brother, Rex Spendlove of Millville; two sisters-in-law, Glenda Benson and Cynthia Kener, and three brothers-in-law, Jack Kener, Morgan Johnson and Dean Jeff.
John was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Maxine, Gerta, Donna; daughter, Diane; granddaughter, Kerstin; two sisters-in-law, Laurel and Melba and brother-in-law, John.
